Low Sodium Lasagna Recipe

To make low sodium lasagna, you'll need the following ingredients:- 1 pound of ground turkey or lean ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 cans of low sodium diced tomatoes
- 1 can of low sodium tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon of dried basil
- 1 tablespoon of dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon of salt (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1 package of whole wheat lasagna noodles
- 2 cups of low fat ricotta cheese
- 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups of shredded low fat mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
Instructions
Now that you have all your ingredients, let's get started with the recipe:- Preheat your oven to 375°F.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic and sauté until they become translucent.
- Add the ground turkey or lean ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned.
- Add the low sodium diced tomatoes, low sodium tomato sauce, dried basil, dried oregano, salt (optional), and black pepper to the skillet. Stir well and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes.
- Cook the whole wheat lasagna noodles according to the package instructions.
- In a separate bowl, mix the low fat ricotta cheese and grated Parmesan cheese together.
- In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of the dish.
- Add a layer of lasagna noodles on top of the meat sauce.
- Add half of the ricotta cheese mixture on top of the lasagna noodles.
- Add another layer of meat sauce on top of the ricotta cheese mixture.
- Add another layer of lasagna noodles on top of the meat sauce.
- Add the remaining ricotta cheese mixture on top of the lasagna noodles.
- Add another layer of meat sauce on top of the ricotta cheese mixture.
- Add a final layer of lasagna noodles on top of the meat sauce.
- Sprinkle the shredded low fat mozzarella cheese on top of the lasagna noodles.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove the aluminum foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before serving.
