The Ultimate Chocolate Gateau Recipe

- 50g unsalted butter
- 1 tbsp golden syrup

Step 1: Make the Sponge Layers
1. Preheat your oven to 180°C and line three 20cm cake tins with baking paper.2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and caster sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
3. Sift in the self-raising flour, baking powder, and cocoa powder, and fold gently until the mixture is just combined.
4. Add the melted butter and fold again until the mixture is smooth.
