Jamie Oliver Mince Pie Recipe
Introduction
Mince pies are a traditional Christmas treat that has been around for centuries. They are made with a mixture of dried fruits, spices, and sometimes alcohol. Jamie Oliver, a well-known British chef, has a fantastic recipe for mince pies that is easy to follow and produces delicious results.Ingredients
For the pastry:- 250g plain flour
- 50g ground almonds
- 50g icing sugar
- 125g unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1-2 tbsp cold water
- 500g mincemeat
- 1 clementine, zested
- 1 lemon, zested
- 1 apple, grated
- 50g chopped almonds
- 50g chopped walnuts
- 50g dried cranberries
- 50g dried apricots, chopped
- 1 tsp mixed spice
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 large egg, beaten, for brushing
- Icing sugar, for dusting
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. 2. To make the pastry, combine the flour, ground almonds, and icing sugar in a large bowl. Add the cubed butter and rub it in with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. 3. Add the beaten egg and 1 tablespoon of cold water and mix until the dough comes together. If it's still too dry, add another tablespoon of water. 4. Roll the pastry out on a floured surface to a thickness of about 3mm. Cut out 12 circles using a 9cm cutter and place them in a 12-hole muffin tin. 5. To make the filling, mix together all of the ingredients in a bowl. 6. Spoon the filling into the pastry cases, filling each one about 2/3 full. 7. Roll out the remaining pastry and cut out 12 slightly smaller circles using an 8cm cutter. Place a pastry lid on top of each mince pie and press the edges together to seal. 8. Brush the tops of the pies with beaten egg and make a small hole in the center of each one with a sharp knife. 9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown. 10. Remove from the oven and leave to cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. 11. Dust with icing sugar before serving.Nutrition
