For the Frosting:

  • 6 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • Gray food coloring

For the Decorations:

  • Chocolate chips
  • Gummy sharks
  • White fondant
  • Black fondant

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans and set aside.

Step 2: In a medium bowl, whisk together the cake flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3: In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Step 4: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.

Step 5: Add blue food coloring to the batter until you reach your desired shade of blue.

Step 6: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cakes comes out clean.

Step 7: Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 8: While the cakes are cooling, make the frosting. In a large bowl, beat the butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.

Step 9: Add gray food coloring to the frosting until you reach your desired shade of gray.

Step 10: Once the cakes are completely cooled, level off the tops with a serrated knife. Place one cake on a cake board or serving platter.

Step 11: Spread a layer of frosting on top of the cake. Place the second cake on top of the frosting.

Step 12: Using an offset spatula, spread a thin layer of frosting around the entire cake to create a crumb coat. Chill the cake in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Step 13: Once the crumb coat is set, spread a thick layer of frosting all over the cake, making sure to smooth it out as much as possible.

Step 14: Using a toothpick or small knife, draw the outline of a shark on the top of the cake.

Step 15: Roll out the white fondant and cut out the shape of the shark. Place it on top of the cake, using the outline as a guide.

Step 16: Roll out the black fondant and cut out the details for the shark, such as the eyes, mouth, and fins. Place them on top of the white fondant.

Step 17: Use chocolate chips to create the shark's teeth.

Step 18: Arrange gummy sharks around the base of the cake for an extra touch.

Step 19: Serve and enjoy your amazing shark cake!
