Ingredients

Instructions

- After 30 minutes, drain the water and add the dal to a pressure cooker along with 3 cups of water and salt to taste.
- Cook the dal for 3-4 whistles or until it is soft and mushy.
- In a separate pan, heat oil or ghee over medium flame.
- Add cumin seeds and let them splutter for a few seconds.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
- Add chopped garlic, ginger, and green chili and sauté for a minute.
- Add chopped tomatoes and sauté until they turn soft and mushy.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and garam masala powder and mix well.
- Sauté the spices for a minute and then add the cooked moong dal to the pan.
- Mix well and let the dal simmer for 5-10 minutes on low flame.
- Add water if the dal is too thick and adjust the consistency as desired.
- Turn off the flame and garnish the Moong Dal with chopped cilantro.
- Serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
